40hp efi no reverse

"G'day, Ive had the disple

"G'day, Ive had the displeasure of being given a 3/05 40hp efi tiller Mariner, that wont fully engage reverse. I adjusted the push/pull cables to max. and min. to no avail. Even with the shift rod disconnected at the lower unit, i still cant obtain enough movement to get full downwards movement of the shift rod, to engage reverse gear fully. Any ideas ??"

Place shifter in neutr

"Hi,

Place shifter in neutral, drop lower unit and ensure it's also in neutral position. Driveshaft & prop should run independantly of one another. Reset the fine adjustment for gear selector cable to centre.

Whilst apart, check impellor, if uncertain of condition or history, replace it.

Once you're happy, slot all together again, naking sure that you align water tube and gears.

That should sort the gremilims for oance and for all!


O ja, going forward is way more fun than reverse!!!
