"Hi,
I have a 40 EL model 421503, it starts fine but won't shut off. The engine is not what came on the boat, they got most of the wiring done but tach and shut off doesn't work, i really just need it to shut off.

Is there a BLK / YEL wire there? If that wire is grounded, the motor should shut down. It kills power to the ignition system. This wire has to run through to control box from motor, via ign sw to ground. Most cases to kill switch as well. Do a continuity test to see if it's clean. Don't forget to test ground wire too, it completes the circuit... Check all connections as a matter of course...

On the tach, there should be a grey wire from either the control box
