40 hp merc ....no fire (0d089351)

working on a 40 hp merc that has no spark. when the owner brought it to me he said it ran fine one day then would not run. when i got it gas was running out the top carb and fuel line was leaking at the tank connector. i checked spark...it jumped 3/8 in. not pretty blue but it did jump. compression 100 +/5 on all cyl. i tried to cran and it fired up for bout 2 seconds then nothing. i ordered kits for carb and got fuel issues fixed. now no fire at all. removed black/yellow wire....no spark removed yellow wires from rectifier....no spark checked voltage on red-red/white(removed) 28 volts checked voltage on blue-blue/white(removed)30 volts. should i assume stator is bad ?
 
ran the #s again today to be sure before ordering pats. i also cheked the trigger voltage output. i am getting proper voltage there. i also checked resistance and it failed on that too....im 90% sure its stator. wish me luck
