40 hp mariner magnum

I,m having a problem with my motor overcharging .at full throttle it charges at 18 volts
can someone tell me where i can start looking for the problem

Common problem. You can purchase an after-market voltage regulator to cure that.

Where is the voltage regulator located ? Is there a diagram that i could download to help me. This motor is a 1997
