Have a 40 hp evinrude that will lose power under full throttle after being on the lake and running for 20-30 minutes. After that it will start hard like it is flooded. Once you get it running again the problem will continue (but happens sooner and more often). Any suggestions to what could be the cause would be greatly appreciated!!

welcome to marineengine!

do you have a warning horn?

sounds like your thermostats are sticking or your water pump is going out.

look at your cyl head and find the temp sensor----cut into the wire and ground it ---- you should hear a horn---if not then you also need a temp sender or horn..........by the way it is a tan wire that looks like it just goes into the head.

you may also want tot check the condition of your plugs.....could also be a fuel pump going out....or something elec heating up and failing.

first thing you want to do is make sure your warning horn inside the control box is good by grounding the wire.
