40 horse Evinrude vro

I have a 1987 40 horse vro on the boat I am selling. while I was giving it a bath I noticed oil coming from a weep hole on the lower unit. It sat since the end of the fall run. any help would be appreciated.

That has been explained many times as being normal on a 2 stroke engine.

To ease your mind..... check the coloring and viscosity of the actual gearlube (loosen the drain screw enough to have a little drip out).

If the coloring and viscosity is identical, a lower unit leak exists.

If what is dripping out of the "weep" hole is pure black, that would be the excess unburnt fuel mixture dripping down the inside of the soot covered interior exhaust housing and is nothing to be concerned about.
