4 Hp Evinrude 1976

I have a 4 HP Evinrude 4606. I could not get it to run more than a second. I thought it was running rich so I tried to take apart the carb. The bowl has a little grit in it. I tried to finish dis-assembly following the official repair manual but I can not get the float hinge pin out. Is there a trick to it? How can I tell if the cork float is shot? I may just get a rebuild kit but I still need to get the pin out.

Be careful not to break the little ears off of the carb body. Try using some type of penitraiting oil on the pin, lightly tap on the end of it with a small punch.
Drop the float into a small container of fuel and see if it floats, or just get the OEM kit with a float in the kit.
