4.5l Mercruiser Maintenance Life

Hey y’all,

I recently completed my 300 hour service on my 200 HP 4.5L Mercruiser and Alpha One Gen 2. I went to the local mechanic shop to have the maintenance life reset via a scan. The mechanic completed the reset and checked for any codes. No codes were found and the maintenance life was set back to 100.

The “service soon” message continues to appear when the key is turned to the on position.

I took it out for a day on the lake and put it through multiple power cycles. I also disconnected the battery over night and hooked it back up. The message still appeared.

Any thoughts would be great as I have not found anything like this nor had the mechanic seen it before.

Boat is a 2020.

Thanks!

I would call mercruiser tech support . Is the mechanic a mercruiser dealer or independent?
Thanks for the reply!

They are an independent shop with a good rep. I will give mercruiser tech support a call and see if they have any suggestions. Hope they don't just say to go to a mercruiser dealer

I'm having the same exact issue, if you find the solution please post. Thanks

Mercruiser got back to me saying to go back to the dealer and then they should contact the dealer support..... Another $140 scan I guess

Would think if you already paid them to reset it they would not charge u to scan and call mercruiser at least that’s what they should do

I do not. I went to a new shop today(also mercury authorized). They charged me for a half hour for the scan and were very helpful. They reset the maintenance life back to 100 and did an ecu flash for an update. Both of these changes did not clear the message from the gauge tho.
We think it may be an issue with the gauge. When I turn the key to the on position I notice the tach needle on the gauge with the LCD screen/ buttons vibrates as it powers on and goes to 0. I have had the gauge needles vibrate/flutter before on vehicles and subsequently the gauge cluster stopped working.

Thinking I will try to replace that gauge and see if the issue resolves.

They buzz, hum, and vibrate then zero out. Then service soon blinks 6 times. It's a medallion gauge. I erased all required service on vessel view, but the service soon came back

This is exactly what is happening with mine. I was thinking of purchasing a new gauge cluster but have not found the exact one
