4.3 with balance shaft?

I have a 1992 sportcraft with a 4.3 of same year. Read somewhere that later 4.3 had a counter balance shaft to make it run smoother.
Can anyone tell me what year they started doing that, and how to identify such an engine ?

I'm not sure about what year GM started using the counterbalance shaft... I see 1995 and 1996 listed.

As for determining the difference between the non-counterbalanced and counterbalanced engines, look at the timing chain cover.
The counterbalanced engine will have an extended cover as to encase the counterbalance shaft drive gear.

GM started with the balance shaft in the auto in '92....but not all at once....and by 96, they all had it. The marine offering usually lag what went into the cars so it hard to say...especially when the engine OEMs typically don't sell 'by year'....
