4.3 Mercruiser Steering Cable Removal

i have a 1993 Mercruiser 4.3L...steering is a little stiff when i turn toward port side. I think it's just the tube that is the culprit. At least that's where i'll start. Trying to take the steering cable off so i can clean and lube the tube but i've hit a snag. How the heck do i take this off? I took the bolt off already but it's still stuck. It moves freely (up/down/left/right) but won't come off. Any advice how to remove this so i can pull the tube off the steering cable?

Crap,just realized... maybe that part doesn't come off and i have to unscrew the tube from the right side until it comes out. Right?

another photo from the top view. this was before i took the black bolt off. The piece that doesn't come off that moves freely, moving that left and right is what is helping with the steering assist i suppose, right?

I have an earlier model control valve. I think i found what i need. Looks like the adaptor block should come out. I'll give it a go tonight.

yep, I loosen the bolt and tapped the bolt with a hammer. That did the trick.
