4.3 LX Burning up starters?

I have been thrugh three starters in the past month. They work for a while, then begin making a loud grinding sound without turning the engine over. Flywheel shows no damage. When I bench test the starter, is as if the drive gear will not fully engage, and the solinoid seems to turn off and on rapidly.

Is this a wiring issue that is damaging the solinoid?

FYI, I have never modified or changed the factory wiring in any way.

Have you ever bothered to clean the battery cable connections at the block?
Are you sure its not hydro locking?

Cleaned all cables and connections right away. Not hydro locked because every so often, it will start.

i had a pickup one time did the same thing keep puttin starters on it after about 6 starters that was it!! hydro-locked i know it was not a boat!!! just thought i would throw that in!! good luck

Ignition timing set at ???? Are you using any Starter Shims???

what starters are you putting in, possibly a very poor reman
