4.3 issues

Hi I have a 1990 crestliner with a 4.3. I have owned the boat for 4 years. Last weekend while trolling I noticed my tachometer was reading 2500 rpm it usually is between 1200-1400 rpms? I thought maybe the tach was messed up but at the gas station afterwards I used a lot more fuel then normal? Also on the way in the boat seemed sluggish between 1/4 and 3/4 throttle? Carb? Bad gas? Please help.

Ayuh,.... How long ago was yer last Tune up,..??

How 'bout the last fuel filter change,..??

Did the motor, Sound, like it normally does, or did it sound like it was revin' higher,..??

Motor sounded normal. Fuel water filter changed last fall when it was winterized.

Did you catch any fish?

rap on the tach with your knuckles. sluggish + tach issue could be related to distributor or vice versa - a bad tach can affect ignition - could try a run with it disconnected.

As I noted in another post today, and others asking...pull your distributor cap off. Clean or replace the rotor and cap if necessary. In boats, there's lots of corrosion that can occur under the cap and poor spark is probably contributing to your weak performance.
It's a good place to start.
