I could use some assistance here. I'm helping out a friend with his ski boat and the first problem we had, was the fuel pump was not working because he forgot to put stabilizer in over the winter and it gummed up the pump.
Using a jumper between terminals 87 and 30 on the fuel pump relay, [see diagram below] we were able to supply constant power to the pump and eventually get it unstuck and working again.
The boat ran for a few mins but it sounded like the starter would not disengage, so we tried starting and stopping it a few times, hoping to get it to disengage. Now the boat will start, but as soon as you release the key and it springs back to the "run" position, it dies. We've already replaced the ignition switch, but still the problem persists.
Any thoughts on why it starts but wont stay running?
