4.3 four winns stall issue, need help

Help Please, I have a 1994 Four Winns 17' with a OMC Cobra Drive and a 4.3 v6. I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel pickup tube, filter, spark plugs, and re-built the Holly carb but still have a stalling problem. It seems to only occur under a load at accelleration out of the hole. The engine will stutter and stall out if you push the throttle past 3/4. Only when pulling a skier or tube, with several people in the boat. I have tried to make it stutter without a load on and it wont. I have taken it to two different mechanics and spent a lot to fix, without success. It acts like it starves for fuel, but sometimes it will not restart for 30 min. Im confused? Any Ideas?

Welcome aboard !

You had the anti-syphon valve checked, and the fuel pickup tube checked ?

You had the vent checked, maybe a vacuum develops ?

You had compression checked ? The plugs look good ?

This engine burn oil ?

How's the spark ? Timing ?

What else does the engine do , does it run hot ?

To possibly replicate this problem, you could severely over prop your boat to load the engine. I have done this in the past to test for fuel starvation issues. Sounds like what you are experiencing.

Did you run the boat on a remote tank?

With some one else driving at say 1500 rpm you disconnect the ESA module.

be aware you will have to shut off the engine to shift out of gear

If the engine reaches around 4600 rpm you know the module is bad

The mico switch are good correct, not sticking ?

Thank you Master Mechanic,

The fuel pickup tube was replaced, i don't know about the anti-syphon valve.

Compression was good, pulgs replaced and good

Doesn't burn oil

good spark - I will have to check it this spring ion the water when it acts up, to see if that could be it

Doesn't run hot

I think it must be electrical?? because after it stalls, it won't start(sometimes)-even with starting fluid. It makes no sense?

I will have to check the vent also, It had sat in a barn under cover for a few years prior to my purchase last year.

We can run it all day without problem unless we pull a load.

It is still in winter storage but I will check your ideas as soon as spring hits. THANK YOU
