"Charlie.... Have the (approx 6') nylon cord ready, a figure eight knot in one end, the other end burnt with a lighter (whatever) and a rag pulled over the end to make the end of the cord a hard pointed end (sort of).
Hold the manual starter upside down, and turn the pulley to its extreme linit in a counter clockwise direction. Be sure to have a sturdy grip on that pulley so as not to have it get away from you and unwind rapidly. If the cord tube in the pulley isn't lined up as it should be, carefully let the pulley back up until it is lined up.
Now, insert the pointed end of the cord into the pulley and out the front of the manual starter housing, and pull it completely through until the figure eight knot is secure in the tube. Hold on to the cord and let the pulley rewind. If there is too much cord, cut accordingly and attach the handle. That's it.
