can someone tell me how to fin

can someone tell me how to find what my ser.# is. the decal is gone and the paper work also. help!

"Larry, Mercs have a "welsh plug" (small silver disk about the size of a quarter) on the waterjacket around the cylinder head that contains the serial number.

It is "normally" on the right side (standing behind the engine). On some models it will be hidden under the (electrical box).

I will post a pic of a small OMC for reference (the Merc is pretty much the same) to show what and about where you should look...

"i have every thing you need to make a engine run , but it drops a cylinder on me. and every thing checks out y\to be fine. please help me it is 20 years old and has been good to us but now it is one after another problem. first impeller went then switch box now dropping # 2 , it is completely apart-eng lower unit and center piece. looks like i have a cracked lower unit, so now i need a goo used one with no guts. anway so much for my season huh! can you help larry"
 
"these engines are known to lo

"these engines are known to loose the lower main bearing which then takes out the lower seal. The bearing is less then $20, but to change it involves removing the engine and splitting the case. Just something else to look at."
