The shifter started getting hard to move the last few times I was out,one time it wouldn't come out of reverse but after a few moves on the shifter it came out and went forward. Now it won't shift into forward at all.could the shifter cause all of this.

It could be the shifter but a lot of times it's the lower shift cable itself (between engine and drive), either out of adjustment or binding and needs to be replaced. I think the cable is in the $100 range and the mechanic will probably need 3 - 4 hrs?

Anyone can do it print it out read and re-read it, if you don't do it then give it to the mechanic.

Stuart writes about every aspect, best written i have ever seen, on this subject.

That the reason i gave you the link.

the mechanic who is familiar with the boat comes today and I will pass on the link.thanks so much for the link. I will learn about this boat just like I did when I had my Volvo Penta and got all my help here,I never had to take it in because of the detailed help.
