350 XL running hot...?

350 TBI with FWC. New thermostat and impeller last fall. This engine has never run hot for me. New risers last fall as well.

Climbed up to 200*+ and alarm went off. This occurred in the slip after it warmed up. Typically this engine runs at no more than 180* and usually less. I have never seen it get hot especially at idle in the slip.

I noticed last time out the engine ran up in temp at idle / low speed. When I got up on plane at 3,000 rpm the temp backed off.

In the slip today it backed off slightly when I revved up to 3,000, but at that point it was pretty hot already so I shut her down.

My mechanic will start with the thermostat, then impeller...if thats not it....heat ex changer blockage? Sea water pump ?

What say you ?

Thank you for any input.

A clogged U-tube cooler is also a possibility. Radiator shop charges about $150 to disassemble and clean. Also check raw water intake/scoop for marine growth and that 90 degree hose turn into the strainer. Good luck.

I wanted to respond that we found a bad hose line to the coolant reservoir and replaced it, also new thermostat and so far its all good. Hope that gets it.

Thanks for the shout outs.
