"Im getting spark to the plugs

"Im getting spark to the plugs but the engine wont fire. It just keeps turning over. Could that be the distributor or the carb ? Ive replaced the coil, coil resistor, cap, rotor, plugs and wires, and also the mechanical fuel pump. Its a 454 big block and im guessing its from the mid 70's."

ITS GETTING FUEL. THERES SPARK

ITS GETTING FUEL. THERES SPARK TO THE PLUGS WHICH MAKES ME THINK ITS GOT TO BE THE CARB OR SOMETHING IN THE DISTRIBUTOR.

"The last time it was running

"The last time it was running it was fine. I havent pulled the distributor out, im sure that the timing has not changed. A friend told me there is a pin on the bottom of the distributor, and it might be sheered off causing the timing to jump. What do you think?"

"Jasontatum
Pull the cap off

"Jasontatum
Pull the cap off and roll the engine over, check to see if rotor is turning, then get back to us. Also could not hurt to check the point gap"

Did it run before you changed

Did it run before you changed those parts or is that when the problem started?

"It has not ran for about 8 mo

"It has not ran for about 8 months. At that time it was running great. Those parts went bad from sitting for so long. What happened was i ran the fuel tanks dry, and it sat for a long time. At first i was not getting fuel to the carb. Found out fuel pump was bad. Then i was not getting spark, I started replacing parts and i now have spark to the plugs."

"Check acn clean the fuel filt

"Check acn clean the fuel filter on the carb, and your fuel water seperator. I went though a similar experiece earlier in the season, I put in a bad fuel seperator filter, and it wouldn start. Another thing, will it fire if you spray liquid fire downt the carb? That will further demonstrate the fuel isnt making it to the engine."

"Ive replaced the water sepera

"Ive replaced the water seperator, main fuel filter, and carb filter. When i spray the carb still no fire from the engine. Its just keeps turning over. Im getting spark to the plugs. Its got to be the carb!"

"Jason, quite the opposite. I

"Jason, quite the opposite. If you are spraying ether in the carb and it is still not firing, you have other problems. Either you don't actually have fire at the plugs or it is not firing at the right time. Are you sure you have the correct distributor parts and are they installed correctly? Parts do not go bad from sitting 8 months, be sure you have the correct parts and they are installed correctly. Make sure the plug wires match the firing order. If you have spark, even wrong spark, you will get at least some pop when using ether. Start over with a compression test and by rechecking the ignition parts installation. Make sure your battery and connections are adequate to provide proper voltage and amperage while cranking."
