"My 86ish Johnson 35 will not start with electric start. Starts fine when pulled but no response to turning the key.
Solenoid, starter, fuses in engine compartment, battery - all fine.
This is my first outboard so need some guidance where to go next.

Thanks"

"The starter circuit is..... 1

"The starter circuit is..... 12 volts to the "B" terminal of the ignition switch. When key is turned to the start position, 12 volts is applied to the "S" terminal of the ignition switch.

That 12 volts is fed to a neutral safety switch inside the control box, and from there to the one of the small 3/8" nuts of the starter solenoid to energize that solenoid. The other 3/8" nut of the solenoid leads to ground to complete the circuit.

If the neitral safety switch is out of adjustment OR you have the engine is gear, the voltage will not travel thru the safety switch to the solenoid.

If in neutral, jiggle the throttle handle while having the key in the start position. If the neutral safety switch simply needs a slight adjustment, that jiggling usually causes the circuit to complete and results in having the starter engage.
