35 johnson carb problem

ok i bought a rebuild kit and solved the flooding problem, BUT now it wont run at hi speed but a few seconds and then starts surging (fact slow fast slow) like its running out of gas, it has new fuel lines and the guy at the boat motor shop set the float for me, it runs great at an idle or even to about 1/2 throttle but thats it. any ideas? i tried to squeeze the primer bulb when it was surging but it just flooded it down slower then it would start to clear its self out and go back to surging :(

Sounds like you have some restriction in the high speed jet.
You do have good spark on both cylinders don't you?

spark is good on both cylinders and carb has been cleaned about 4 times and now has a new rebuild kit in it :( idles good and runs 1/2 throttle all day but bogs after a few seconds at full throttle

LOL i have 118 and 120 for compression and have put spark tester on plugs and even replaced the plugs so the omly thing left if a fuel problem :( just dont know where, thanks
 
On the high circut of the carb, all the gas has to go through the high speed jet. It doesn't take much to restrict or plug the jet.
You didn't list the model# of your engine, what year is it?

its a 1979 i had taken the jet out and washed it out with carb cleaner and a pipe cleaner and it looks shinny and open inside, thanks for the help
 
I just reread the orginal post and you said that when you pumped the primer bulb it would flood the engine. If the needle and seat are in good shape, and the float is set properly, that shouldn't happen.
It might be worth removing the carb and checking.

it didnt really "flood" out but it did make the engine slow down, its got a new needle and seat and the boat shop guy set the float for me so im at a loss :(

I had a 1979 Johnson that had carb issues that drove me nuts. I rebuilt & put a different set on the motor, solved all of my problems. Never did find out what was wrong with the original set. May be worth a shot.
