35 hp mercury rev lock not locking mid 80s model

first off my ser# is B298973 i

first off my ser# is B298973 if somebody can tell me the year second with the adjusting nut cranked all the way out it will not preload the spring like the shaft needs to be 1/4"longer witch makes the motor kick up in reverce untill it takes up the slack on the rev lock is ther something missing or just worn parts hope somebody else has seen this probalem thanks
 
I think it is in the right pos

I think it is in the right position it is pushing on the rev lock it is just not pushing it far enough up to lock it in like i think it sould be my 65hp preloads the spring and locks it in tight. the bottom yoke flexes on the splined pin assy could there be a missing shim and leting the motor drop down from the swivel bracket witch the rev lock mounts to. Thanks for telling me the and the web site i will check on the positioning of the cam thanks

"the rubber engine mounts could be worn out, you can look at the lower 2 but the upper ones are under the powerhead. Removal of the powerhead is required for replacement. The reverse lock should lock in neutral also, see if its pushing the pin up as someone shifts from fwd to neutral. One more thing, the cam in the lower unit is plastic with a metal cover on the ramp, it might have broken."
