"I guess its my turn finally. I have a like-new 2005 3.3hp 2 stroke that I picked up only 2 months ago from a local marine shop. Its mounted on a 16' sailboat moored at a slip. I've ran it twice without issue as recently as 2 weeks ago. I ran through the checklist today...vent OPEN, fuel cutoff valve OPEN, gear select NEUTRAL, throttle START, choke OPEN, and emer stop ENGAGED. I pulled and pulled without a hint of turning over. These motors are simple...its either spark, fuel, or circuit right? I disconnected the fuel line into the carb and verified flow from the tank, verified spark plug installed and connected (no tools today). Are those fused links in the electrical connection? Do those commonly fail? Is it possible that I now suddenly have a gummed up carb...wouldn't it at least try to turnover or pickup? Could I have "flooded" it with the choke wide open...or is that a stupid question? Any thoughts?"

"Take Jeff's advice and confirm you have spark.

If so, I would spray a little bit of 50:1 mixed gas directly into the carb throat and try to start - if it does, that would indicate a gummed carb....

More than once I have seen a motor start fine today and then tomorrow, you can pull on it all day and it won't fire. Most times either bad spark plug or gummed carb (running old gas - and 2 weeks old is "old")."

"And since that's a one lunger, if it's not running on number one cylinder, it not running!

Update...no fuel thru carb. A few of the carb components had chloride residue on them and one was frozen in place. Apparently laid down with the lower gear higher than the power head and some residual seawater ran in. All good now. Didn't realize this little motor has a fitting right underneath the head for a freshwater flush connection. A few bucks at WestMarine and now I'm good to go.
