i have a 17' 1969 century

i have a 17' 1969 century resorter with a cracked lm318 in it. I am nearing the point of purchasing a new longblock for it and am now wondering I should replace the 318 with a reman 360 longblock for the same price and some extra horsepower. I am doing this on a budget and looking for some advice as to whether I can do this without causing unnecessary headache and financial distress. I have reviewed some of the other threads but i was hoping to get more specific advice.

Will the 1:1 velvet drive still work well?
shaft/prop size and pitch?
AFB carter carb 600CFM be ok?
etc.etc.

Engine ID# - LM/318/BWR10/366

Thanks in advance!

"The swap is pretty straight forward but there are issues you will run into. First you need to know that a 360 is a externally balanced engine so there are things that will need to be changed.
1. Flywheel
2. Oil Pan ( different radius at the back of the pan from a 318 )
3. Harmonic Balancer
4. the motor mount on the left side is slightly different but it can be adapted to work with minimal problems.
Hopes this helps, if you have any questions let me know, and we do have the parts needed to do the conversion.

It all depends on on your wall

It all depends on on your wallet. If you don't mind spending the money I personally like the added cubic inches. but that being said if your on a fixed marine budget I agree with jeff that the HP difference isn't much.

"I've got a buddy, that in his younger day, had a deep V SlickChaft SX176 , 17 foot, IO Ford small block 2bbl.
Spent a week jumping it up about 50 HP. / a 4bbl. Holley, Alu. torquer intake manifold, Hi po camshaft, electronic dist.
When he finely got it running right (didn't realize that the firing order had changed, with the camshaft) he was looking at a six MPH gain.

No way worth the effort!

"Ah! The Ford bug bit him! Why they had to change things like firing order and bell housing bolt pattern (and etc) is a puzzlement. A SB Chevy is similar from 1955 on in most important ways, but not a Ford!
