#1 cylinder intake valve stuck

#1 cylinder intake valve stuck open and bent push rod.Pulled the head and took it to the shop and they said the valve guides were scared.Engines only have 140hrs on them any ideas on why the went bad so fast?

Turns out the valve guides were sleaved and the sleaves score easy.Had them all replaced.

"Sheesh! I hope the new ones have more clearance. Never seen a "too loose" valve guide cause any problems, but you'd think they do all the time the way people insist on running them so damn tight!

Aren't valve guides usuall

Aren't valve guides usually reamed to size after being pressed in? Maybe that step was missed and caused the scoring. Either that or a lube problem maybe?

"I think you hit the nail on the head, Jim. And it ain't a lube problem!

nother thing that ticks me off is that most engine builders use valve seals on the exhaust valves. That just prevents them from getting enough oil. Since the exhaust valves can't 'suck' oil out of the motor like intake valves, there's no good reason to use seals, but.... Virtually every engine made has those fool things installed anyhow.

The machine shop said it had brass sleaves put in insted of changing the guides.Im hopeing the other engine dosn't develop the same problem.

I noticed what appears to be oil getting on my exhaust valve on the #6 cyl when I pulled my exhaust manifolds...Wouldn't that be the valve seal?
