"I have a 72 Bertram 28' with twin 318's. The engines run great for about 4 hours when out on the water. Once they run for a while, both engines start to stall when going from neutral into gear. I have been through the engines over and over again and can not figure out the problem, any ideas?? Thank you"

"Sounds like carb issues, most likely given the age of the boat and the ethonal based fuel. If the carbs have any age on them the ethonal eats away at any plastic within the carb. This maybe causing your low speed jets to clog up - there fore unable to provide more fuel to the carb when under a load."

"Uh-oh! I hope your boat doesn't have those fiberglass tanks, and you have to run on ethanol gas! Bad news.

"I have twin Chrysler '85

"I have twin Chrysler '85 318 I/B. One engine after running fine for an hour, the RPM's become erratic (they shoot up, then down), the engine runs rough, and eventually dies. Any ideas?"

"I have twin 77 Chrysler 318-j

"I have twin 77 Chrysler 318-just rebuilt. Port side will idle fine, but when put in gear, will lose idle and die. Starts right back up. 6lbs fuel pressure to carb, new inline fuel filters, new water separator, new fuel pump, carbs are new rebuilt holley 350 marine 2bbls. I can throttle up not in gear and runs good. Only when put in gear, will stall and die. Now suspecting ignition or ecm. Havent checked anti-syphon but fuel appears to flow well.
I'm running out of ideas."

"Louis and Andy:

You need to start your own thread!

Louis: Possible fuel issues: water in gas, clogged filters, etc.

Andy: Idling too low, bad idle adjustments, or a vacuum leak.
