318 running rough backfire under load

i just got 75 318 and i put ne

i just got 75 318 and i put new plugs cap rotor wires and it runs good at idle and it backfires when under load at 1800rpm or when u goose it in nuetral i tried new ignition box but still not sure if it is plug wire mixed up or the timin way off or what any suggestion would greatly help .i just got the firing order tonight so i goign to check tommorow

"I been having the same problem. I was on Lake Erie fishing and my boat would not start. I finally got it started and it back fired all the way into the dock. I changed the dist. cap and put in new points, plugs and plug wires. Tested and it still back fired at @ 2000 rpm. Changed the coil and resistor and now it will not start. I need help! I do have a carter carb but this has never happened before."

"Uh-oh! You can try putting the accelerator pump rod in the closest (to the pivot) location. That gives the biggest shot.

Better yet, start locating an Edelbrock 1409 marine carb.
