"This is what I use, I know that some of the others will disagree, but this has served me well
Oil..I use 15w40..heavy duty diesel oil, gives about 60 psi pressure,( I know Jeff will bang on about it being to high) change it twice a year ( I'm anal about oil changes) , although every 100 hours is ok.
Cruise..I run mine around 27-2800 rpm, gives my 31 Sea Raider about 25mph , 75% of wot is ok.
fuel burn..I think my boats a little lighter than yours, I use about 15 gph, helps if you stay out of the secondaries
hope that helps..Pete"

"You heard him right, Diesel o

"You heard him right, Diesel oil. It has zinc in it which all oils used to have before roller cams became the norm."

"I have been told never to use

"I have been told never to use diesel oil in a gas engine 4 stroke. Diesel have detergents and will clean a petrol engine to the degree it will require rebuilding. I will also add, was also told to use it in rebuilt petrol engines once broken in, the engine will always be clean. I still use oils designed for gas engines. Oil change twice a year. Look forward for comments!"

"I'm sure there some truth

"I'm sure there some truth to that but I wouldn't worry about it an engine that not real old or slugged up. All newer oils are loaded with detergents anyway. Check out the post from last 8/26, we went into a lot of detail concerning cam issues."
