i have a newly rebuilt reverse

i have a newly rebuilt reverse rotating 318 and we found that our timing isnt the regular 18436572 but 12756348. now we cant get our motor to stay running but we are getting backfire through the carb. we also rebuilt or starter but we cant get enough rpms to start the motor. we have tried to rotate the distributer 180 degrees but still cant get it started. any suggestions?

"Here's the deal: The 1275

"Here's the deal: The 12756348 is correct, but it must be done right. The rotor rotates clockwise and the 12756348 sequence 'goes around the cap' (so to speak) clockwise as well (which is backwards from "normal" rotation motors).

Number one cylinder is the front left, and its wire goes into the distributor cap around the 10 to 10 o'clock position. It's a Mopar, so the distributor goes in one way or the other--correct, or 180 degrees out.

If the timing is way off (advanced) that poor starter will have a tough time trying to turn it over.

Jeff"
