318 breathing thru intakeheads

"Help!!! I went out today and my twin 318's ran great. After I stopped for a while, I heard what sounded like the starboard engine was breathing. I started the engine and could feel hot air comming from the endentation mid way on the block from the heads and the intake manifolds!! I hope that it is just the gaskets have blown. Can anyone help me on this, as I'm going back tomorrow to lift the intake than check the heads. thanks,john."

There is an exhaust passage in the intake manifold under the carburetor to warm the fuel / air mix. The intake manifold gasket may be leaking exhaust gas.

Read the whole thread before you buy an intake gasket set."

"That's what I thought. I didn't put them in as I thought that I didn't need it!! I will replace the gaskets WITH THE PLATES IN BOTH ENGINES NOW. Thanks this is a great group,john."
