Hi everyone....I have a 25 hp 1992 evinrude on a 13'9" aluminum runabout. The boat is about 350lbs without the motor, im running a 10X13 prop....The GPS is reading close to 31 mph with just me in the boat, and it feels pretty accurate, as im familiar with boat speeds by the feel.....My question is, is this abnormal??….I'm not used to a 25 hp being this fast....Any input?

I have a 14' aluminum V-hull that I push with my 9.9HP @ 15MPH. in comparison your 31MPH with a 25HP is probably well within reason. You have a very light boat and those 25's have good torque so it sounds right.

Honestly, 31MPH in a 14' boat is really cooking so I'd be pretty careful.

You can also use a boat speed calculator for a rough estimate: http://www.hhscott.com/evinrude/docs/BSLAC.htm

I have had my 14 foot jon with my 20hp going about 28mph on calm waters fully loaded with me and gear.It is fast to say the least in my little boat.

Thanks man.

Your 25 is related to my 35hp, also on a 14' aluminum boat. When new it would do almost 40mph. Now that the boat bottom is nicely beat up from hitting rocks and logs, it is down to about 35mph. Good enough for me.

Gator, I had a boat like that once, it slid off the trailer at 60 mph and went 100 feet into the woods. Repaired it and still use it. Its a 16' Cadillac fishing boat. Not a runabout.......except that time it took that run about through the trees.

Here it is just before my brother and friend boated a 10 pound lake trout trolling in front of our NW Ontario camp on Lower Manitou Lake. Depth there 85 feet.

Mine is a Cadillac as well. 1962, 13' 9" aluminum runabout, but the previuos owner modified it some....
