"I'm a newbie with a new boat (Seaswirl) that just has gotten its 20 hour service. The dealer noted that the shift from forward to neutral was a bit hard. I had noticed that also, but an I/O is a new creature to me so it didn't raise a red flag to me until now. The dealer says that the control may need to be replaced and since the boat is under warranty they'll look at it when I bring it in for next service. They do not have a replacement unit in stock.
When I read the operating manual it has a paragraph dedicated to changes in the shift mechanism including an increase in shift effort. In this case it says, "See your Volvo Penta dealer ASAP for proper diagnosis and required service or adjustment. Continued operation could result in damage to the shift mechanism and loss of shift and throttle control that could result in personal injury."
I'd appreciate some counsel as we have a boating holiday planned for next week to go to the San Juans and I don't want to get stranded in the middle of the islands with a boat that I can't get into gear (or out of gear).
Thanks in advance for your feedback."
