3.0L wont crank when hot let i

3.0L wont crank when hot let it cool for 40 minuets and its fine mechanic tried to replicate fault at idle on trailer but could not fault it he inspected starter motor said there were signs of corrision the he cleaned up also said soliniod was dry so he lubed it up. problem only occured after being stored over winter.
any help would be great
should I replace starer motor and soliniod or could it be something else?

"I would check all the connect

"I would check all the connections. Check the grounds. battery cables clean? cause they look clean don't mean they are, use a battery brush on the terminals and the cable connection.Follow the neg wire. Clean and check.

The slave solenoid could be going, clean the connections. Do the cleaning with the battery disconnected.

You tried jumping the ole screwdriver trick on the starter when hot, and it still did it then i would buy a starter, or have it checked at autozone for free.

I use DB electrical for starters and alternators."

Sounds like a starter problem

Sounds like a starter problem but...How old is the Battery? Has a battery load test been done? Charging system working properly?

"I am not sure how old your bo

"I am not sure how old your boat is but years ago there was a cronic problem with merc and that was called PAINT CREEP,

They paint everything so well that when certain areas get warm over time the paint creeps into electrical places it should not. Such as solenoids, starter connections and grounds.

look close at the connections as they may look black and shiney but may be paint causing a weak/bad connection when warn."

"If this engine is a GM motor

"If this engine is a GM motor the starter solonoid spring is the most likely problem. They were nortorious for this Replace the solonoid and spring and your problem shouild be solved. If is not a GM motor, disregard...."
