I have read repeatedly about only using the 1/4" thick carb base gasket, after of course installing the thin one made by quicksilver I believe. Can anyone give me the part number I need and a place to order one from, doesnt look like any Merc dealers any where close to me. Also there is a Brass Plug behind the carb and the diagram only explains it as "exhaust manifold plug" I would like to know if this is part of the intake so I can hook up a Vacuum gauge.... And I just got off the phone with Mercruiser and they dont know anything about a 1/4" thick gasket??? Part number??"

I started the 1/4" thick base gasket discussion and use after I bought it locally from a Merc. dealer. The dealer rep. stated it would make my 1987 4.3L w/2BBL Mercarb idle better and it did. The gasket may not be exactly 1/4" but is much thicker than the standard one. I guess I'll have to stop in the dealer's place and try to get another one and post the part number.

Possible to buy severeal thin

Possible to buy severeal thin ones and use fuel resistant gasket goo in between? Probably need longer mounting screws as well.

"Usually on the pipe plug on top, yes, it connects to the intake portion of the manifold. You can always check it, before running, by passing a wire down and forward to the base of the carb. Look thru the carb with the throttle open - wire visible means hook up vac gauge there."
