30hp starter issue

had the hood off while trying to tune carb a little, and noticed the starter drive gear occasionally bouncing up, and hitting the flywheel gear. is the return spring just a little weak? can it be stretched slightly to increase the down pressure?

Most likely weak spring. I'm sure you could stretch it a bit. But it may happen again
