We have a 1971 Chris Craft 307QLV engine that at idle (800 rpm) for a period of time it wants to overheat. 1200 rpm or higher it runs all day just fine. When it gets up to 180 I have an alarm and can rev the engine up to cool it down but usually it happens at a time when I need forward or reverse to manuver.
It has been an ongoing problem for the 15 years we have owned the boat. It does it both with the thermostat in and out. With a brand new impeller it doesn't do it as often but it will still do it. It seams like the cooling system is just borderline or something on it. It has the single impeller D05 pump.
We've had most of the hoses off and replaced and haven't seen any blockage.
Do you think the circulation pump could be the cause of it and not boosting what the raw water pump puts out enough?
Also does anyone know if you can get the gasket for the D10 circulation pump for it in case I want to pull it off and look at it?
I know they are discountinued but still see them for sale sometimes but I also have a reverse rotation engine making things even more difficult to find.
