"Hi all, I just installed a new long block and noticed the temp is running hotter than before. it runs around 140- 170 the old motor never seemed to rise above 130. I replace the sending unit so it is possible it never worked before. But should I be concerned with the current operating temp range??"

"Is the engine sea water cooled or is it fresh eater cooled with a closed cooliong system, i.e. a heat exhanger? Did you change the Thermostat?"

"thanks, it is fresh water cooled. when I pulled it apart it didn't have a thermostat so I didn't put one in either. this weekend on a verry short trip it heated up to about 170 and did not rise till I slowed to dock and the temp shot up to 200.after docking I let it run in neutral at 1000rpm and it dropped down to 160. after cooling I started pulling hoses to check flow and everything seems to be flowing ok,the only thing I noticed was the slight noise the water pump was making(this will be the nxt part to be changed). is there something els I should be checking?"
