"I have a 1985 30hp Johnson that has not been used for a few years and last month we got it out and got it working again, so we took it up north Mn. and my son was using it when he said it would not go into forward gear and by the time I got to him they could not use reverse either. When he showed me what was going on it sounded like it was grinding, trying to get into gear, so I told them to shut it down right away and we tilled the motor up then gear oil started to run out of a little hole on the side of the shaft."
