" Hi,

I am in visiting the tackle shops alot and I have heard of alot of tournament fisherman modifying their engines for better performance. Is there anyway to increase the horsepower on this engine. I thought about it, maybe adding a carbaretor from a 35 hp johnson. A better fuel and air mixture might help to do this. Is this feasible? Really with the two engines what can I expect to see different. I would imagine they are very similiar to some extent, weight, component. Basically to some it up, can this be done, and how? "

"Ken,

I can't tell you whether it is possible or not, but I doubt if a 5 HP increase is going to make much difference. If I was in your position and I really wanted more power, I'd most likely just jump to a 50 HP. At this link you can find a speed calculator:

http://www.go-fast.com/site_index.htm

Enter in the weight, HP and top speed of your boat, and then hit the "calculate" button above the "constant" text box. This will calculate the constant. Using the constant it is possible to estimate the top speed givin a different HP; to do this, enter in a new HP and then hit the "calculate" button above the "speed" textbox.
