"Hi...
I have an 18ft 88 bayliner 3.0 merc 153 that started to have a knock in it. I immediately shut it down and pulled the motor, and found a spun bearing. I am working on determining if the crank can be reground, vs just buying a re-man crank, vs purchasing a remanfactured block vs a complete upgrade to a bigger moter and new lower unit, vs a new boat..... I have read many post about tapping / bashing / pressing the sleeve that hold the lower pully back onto the crankshaft as it is not threaded to draw it back on. I used a puller to get it off, (to remove the camshaft/timing cover and seal) Previous posts have talked about fabricating a unit to help press it back on,,, I can't envision this.... no one has posted a pic of what they fabricated to do this that I have seen... Merc manual say to tap it back on to the crank,,,, ie... risk hurting the new bearings,,, any thoughts or ideas on this... I would hate to put the money into it and then hurt the new bearings by 'bashing it back on' and have to re pull it.... some back ground... I have had the boat 4 months... put a rebuilt lower unit on it that is working great,,, re-did all the floors, fixed about everything electrical, it is a good lookin solid boat, and I have about 4k into this project..
thanks for any and all ideas, suggestions and help...."
