Hi everyone, hopefully someone can help. My mercruiser was running great than I lost power? Now this is what's confusing, in forward gear it won't go higher than 3000 rpms but in neutral, or reverse I have all the power I need. The rpms run normal when in neutral or reverse, also after running, when i turn off the engine she won't start like she's flooded! Temperature is normal but the oil psi is low when in forward gear. Oil psi rises and stays at a normal level when I apply power in neutral or reverse???????Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, cheers.

So I guess I'm the only one to ever have this issue???? Lol.

Is motor running hot, overheating? Its not good to rev.high RPMS in neutral with no load on prop. damage will ensue!!

Hi Johny' I don't Rev the engine in neutral, I was just saying it does go over 3000 rpms unlike in forward gear. As for it running hot, not at all, temp Guage is normal. Thanks for your response.

Ayuh,.... Check the contents of the fuel filter for water, 'n crud,.....

It makes no difference what it'll do in neutral, as there's no load on the motor,....

First of all you cannot have equal or greater power in neutral and reverse than forward gear.

Reverse does not rev as high and SHOULD NOT be revved as high as forward gear................not designed for that type of use!!!!

Lets start by you giving more information.....

What year is motor?

Point or electronic ignition?

Without the basic info no guesses or conclusions can be made.

Need specifics model/year info first.

As we speak a marine mechanic is cleaning the carbs and replacing the fuel filter and the water fuel separating filter. I'll let you no what he says. Thanks Boys.

Hi guys first I want to thank you for your suggestions and help. So the boat is running better than ever, it was a combination of spark plugs, fuel filter, water separation fuel filter and dirty carbs. Thanks again, cheers.
