3.0 lx ? 1995

Gentleman, I'm having a hard time researching this motor.

Did Mercruiser actually make a 3.0 LX motor in '95?

I'm looking at a boat this Saturday with a 3.0 LX.

Help welcomed,

The service literature says they did....that said the big difference between a plain jane and an LX is the head. a factory block built as an LX should have RK or RN in the block code, in front of and below the distributor.

The best bet would be to get the serial numbers from both the engine and the drive and have a dealer check them for you...
 
Now That's Interesting! The guy said he resurfaced the head and the valves were redconditioned.

Question: Would this be a good thing? and WHY would anyone need to do this on a '95 motor?

At least he was honest as the boat looks awefully Clean.... but it did send a Flare up when he told me.

Question 2: This would be my first I/O and due to the reconditioning, should I stay away from this one?

Ayuh,... If it Needed it, it's a Good thing,...

Ya don't junk out a repairable motor,...

If it Was repaired, Why stay away from it,...

1995 was quite awhile ago, it Ain't a brand new motor,..
Things break,... maybe it burnt a valve from water in the fuel or something along the way,...

The 3.0l motor is a Good strong ole motor that's been in continuous productions since the early/ mid-60s,...
 
TY... Guess I'm just a little nervous. I'm driving 6+ hrs to check this one out. I've been looking for months and have looked at several boats and have scanned a few hundred others along with some calls.

This one looks like one I could really settle into. It's also 4700 bucks....

Any other thoughts are Greatly appreciated!
