2HP 4 Stroke - Uh oh

I have a 2hp 4 stroke with very low hours that had not been started in 2 years. After unsuccessful starting efforts I just went ahead and ordered a new carburetor and put a new spark plug in her, I also topped up the oil and cleaned out the gas tank and put fresh gas in her. She started right up, ran for 45 seconds then made a farting sound & stopped running. Whats sucks is oil is dripping out from the casing around the bottom of the engine
and the pull cord is very hard too pull and of course I cannot get her started.

I wonder if I overfilled her with oil? Any ideas on what happened here?

Most likely.

Check the site glass on the side of the motor. When the engine is level, the oil should be between the bottom of the glass and the little white mark about 1/2 way up the glass.

Do not try to start it again until you reduce the amount of oil and pull the spark plug out. The remove the safety landyard and pull on the pull starter several times the get any oil out of the cylinder.

If you force it, you could break a push rod or worse. Oil does not compress.

Once you get it started again (assuming nothing is bent or broken inside the powerhead), it will smoke for a while getting all the excess oil out of the system.

I did exactly what you said and she started up on the 2nd pull, smoked for a little while and then settled into the gentle purrrr of a healthy 2hp 4 stroke. Thanks so much for your help!
