Went for a spin out - engine felt like it was racing for a while-then cut out. Started it back up - same thing. I stripped carb out and cleaned it - still no joy... Admittingly i had moved speed screws - from original setting.... Just wondering if i have the correct sparkplug - Can anyone please help?
Thanks

"Racing for awhile? Are you saying that the rpms increased and the engine slowed down at the same time, and this took place without you moving the throttle?

If so, either the prop was slipping, which is possible but unlikely, or a driveshaft spline has failed, or the propeller encountered cavitation.

This could have resulted in overheating. Check the head bolts to see if they've come loose.

Spark plug should be either Champion J6C or J4C, gapped at .030. The J6C might provide improved performance."

"No, When i mean racing - i mean the engine increases (revs and speed) then slows down. Not a consistent tempo if you know what i mean. Then seems to loose revs and cuts out... Compression seems to be fine. I have NGK B6S spark plug in it at the moment, and i dont know if this is compatible with the engine as i have bought it second hand. Starting to think is it all worth it or should of i bought a newer engine???? LOL

Sometimes a two cycle motor will race immediately prior to shut down when fuel is shut off suddenly. I would check your tank ventilation.
