290 tilt sensor/potentiometer replacement

How hard is it to replace the tilt potentiometer on a 290? Any tips? I haven’t really looked at it that hard yet but I have a new one coming so want to be ready.

My mechanic said it should pop straight out after removing the bracket. I can twist it back and forth and move it up and down a bit but it doesn’t want to come off. Any ideas?
 
Figured it out. It’s hitting the top of the transom when I go to lift it out. The mechanic had told me he added something to the cutout so the seal would seal things up. I think that’s what’s preventing me from removing it. If so I’m guessing that m stuck without a gauge or tilt limiter. Robert
