280 upgrade to duoprop sx dps

I am upgrading from a 280 to a

I am upgrading from a 280 to a new sx dps stern drive and have a few questions. The engine is a marine power 454 v-8. question #1: Will the newer duo-prop give the boat better performance?

Question #2: I am thinking of using a transom shield adapter to keep from filling in the transom hole and recutting a new one... does anyone have any experience with this transom shield adapter? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

"1) Yes, the boat should get better performance with a duoprop, but your bills will be significantly higher whenever you nick one of the props (or both).

2) Using transom shield adaptors is generally a good idea to go from one model/brand of outdrive to another. However, I have not tested that type of adaptor myself. I am still a 280 believer.

"To use a transom shield adapter depends a lot of the state of Your transom. If the wooden core is dry and fresh when You remove the old shield, it should be no problem, but if water soaked and partly rotten, particularly at the bottom, I would stay away and go 'the hard way': rebuild the transom."
