28 Johnson starts then stalls

I have a 1987 28HP Johnson that will start and then stall. I have rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the fuel pump. If I push in the key for the primer I can keep it running. When it starts to die I push in the key and it will speed up for about 10 seconds then start to die again.

Check the high speed jet behind the plug in the float bowl for being clean.

Is that behind the drain plug on the float bowl? I don't see anything that says high speed jet on the exploded view.

# 19 on the diagram you can use a welding tip cleaner or soft copper wire. Exactly how are you adjusting the slow needle? Did you put a new gasket on when you mounted the carb?

When you rebuilt the carb did you put the gasket center of the float bowl #7 on the diagram? I bet it is not there.

I thought I cleaned it when I rebuilt the carb, but I will take it off and clean it tomorrow. I did replace the gasket. I set the slow speed 1 and a half and then tweeked it after it started.

I did exactly like you said Kimcrwbr1 (clean #19 with weld wire) and that was the problem. It runs great now!. Thanks to all who took time out of your day to help me. Much appreciated.
