28 Johnson fuse

I have 28 hp Johnson. It starts right up to start with. After a few times of starting the motor and then turning it off it won’t crank at all. Usually after 4 or 5 times of cranking. The thing is if you pull the fuse out and put it right back in then it will fire right up. Anyone had this issue before?

If you haven't tried a different 20 amp fuse, do so as there may be a flaw in the breakable portion of the fuse and the metal caps... OR... a intermittent break in the fuse holder (it happens).

Also... on the off chance that when you had the hood off, you grabbed the bendix gear nut and turned it slightly... that would indicate that the commutator of the electric starter has a dead spot in it and you just happened to move it to where contact is made once more.

I'd rather think of the neutral start safety switch or loose/corroded battery cable connections and chance coincidence. But who knows?? Could be the fuse.

Yeah, those areas also gator. Just seems strange that the cure is to remove the hood and do a fuse inspection.
