"My OH alarm goes off when I am idling through my canal. I check for weeds and debris but seems clear. When I reach open water, let her cool for a while and it runs fine. however the engine still feels very hot (and hisses). I inspected the water pump and it appears ok. When I blow thru the up-tube, I hear a bunch of gurgling behind the telltale outlet. What could I be missing?"

Very possibly in need of a new

Very possibly in need of a new water pump impeller. Are you seriously saying you went to all the trouble of dropping the lower unit and then put it back with the old impeller?

It would have been a good idea to have connected a hose to the water-tube while the LU was off to be certain that a good flow could be obtained right through the cooling system as well as out via the telltale.
