THus far this forum (2 days into it) has proven to be such an asset and I want to thank you for this tool!
THe boat that I have I just bought. It is a 1987 Imperial with a Volvo Penta 275 Stern Drive.
I bought it with the stern drive tied in the UP position. The motor is strong with great compression and I was turned over a ton of maintenance records ****** back to the purchase of the boat (one boat owner prior to me)...
My question is now in regards to the stern drive. Should it not lock somehow in the full UP position? When I got the boat home I untied the stern drive and it quickly dropped to the full DOWN position. Should the hydraulics hold it back from dropping? I am looking at a new hydraulic pump?
WHat are the diagnostics I should run it through? I should not have to get into the water to tie this thing up! Once I get the battery (new one) installed, (I bought a Marine Battery and have it on trickle charge going on two days now and I will install it tomorrow, so I am looking to do some diagnostic testing.
Any input or direction would be great. I have never owned an inboard/outboard before, so this is all NEW to me.
Thanks,
